Rich. Strong. Malty. Timelessly Assam.
Why Broken Leaf, Not Whole Leaf?
When tea leaves are harvested and processed, the leaves that break into smaller pieces are graded separately — this is BOP grade, Broken Orange Pekoe. These smaller pieces have more surface area exposed, which means they release flavour, colour, and aroma faster and more intensely than whole leaf teas.
The result: a darker brew, a bolder cup, and a chai that holds its character even when you add full-cream milk and sugar. This is precisely why Broken Leaf tea became the backbone of Indian chai culture — it was built for the way we actually drink tea.
Why Assam? Why High-Grown?
Assam sits in the Brahmaputra river valley, where the combination of heavy rainfall, humid heat, and iron-rich soil creates tea leaves unlike anywhere else in the world. High-grown estates sit at elevations where cooler nights slow the growth of the leaf — this slower growth concentrates the natural oils and flavour compounds that give Assam tea its signature malty depth.
Flat-grown or lowland Assam teas are faster to produce but thinner in character. Lakhi's sources only from high-grown estates — it shows in every cup.
What Makes This Lakhi's?
Lucky Tea Depot has been blending teas for decades. Broken Leaf is our most trusted, most reordered product — not because we market it the most, but because once someone tries it, they come back. The blend is consistent batch to batch, packed fresh, and delivered sealed so the aroma you open on day one is the same as the cup you brew on day thirty.
